As a Niche School for Uniformed Groups since 2011, SGS prides ourselves for quality leadership development through our Uniformed Groups (UGs), which is one of the cornerstones of our Lifelong Learning Programme. As approximately 33 percent of our student population comes from the Uniformed Groups, much of our students’ character and leadership development will take place through the UGs. Our UG cadets will collectively undergo various developmental platforms such as the UG initiation camp for Secondary Ones, combined UG camps and UG overseas learning camps. These programmes instill our UG cadets with discipline and resilience to work together as a team, to overcome various challenges in different activities such as outdoor cooking, tent pitching, campcraft and drills, as well as to serve the community.
In addition, apart from featuring as a highlight of our school’s annual Awards Presentation Day and National Day Parade, our school’s UGs will also helm the annual National Day Parade Observance Ceremony at the Serangoon Community Club. Cadets from all our Uniformed Groups – NPCC, NCC, Girls’ Brigade, Boys’ Brigade, Girl Guides and Red Cross Youth will lead residents of Serangoon estate in the ceremony, including in paying ceremonial honours to the National Flag, singing the National Anthem and reciting the National Pledge. Through the event, our cadets will be given the opportunity to display loyalty as citizens and exemplify professionalism as uniformed cadets, while doing their part to lead the community.
