HOD Mathematics
Hui Yih graduated from the National University of Singapore with a Bachelor of Science with Merit, specializing in Mathematics. She went on to obtain her Postgraduate Diploma in Education (Secondary) from the Nanyang Technological University. In 2009, Hui Yih attended the “Management and Leadership in Schools” programme at NIE.
Hui Yih started her teaching career as a Mathematics and English teacher at Serangoon Garden Secondary School. In 2006, she was appointed the school’s Training Coordinator as well as the Project Coordinator in the school’s journey towards People Developer’s Standard (PDS) certification. She worked closely with the School Management Committee to put sound people development processes in place and the school was PDS certified in April 2007.
In 2007, she was appointed Level Head, Mathematics. Two years later, she was appointed HOD of the Mathematics Department. In the same year, the Mathematics department was awarded MOE’s TLLM Ignite 3! Resource Package for its school-based curriculum innovation “Hierarchical Mathematics Teaching and Learning @SGS”. The school-based curriculum innovation aims to better meet the learning needs of SGS pupils in Mathematics. The resource package includes funding, opportunities for the department teachers to receive further training in curriculum design, pedagogy, assessment and educational research as well as to attend local and overseas conferences.
