HOD Science
Ying Leng oversees the Science Programme in the school. She graduated from the National University of Singapore with a Bachelor of Science degree, majoring in Biology, and then moved on to the National Institute of Education to complete her Post-Graduate Diploma in Education. Ying Leng was appointed HOD/Science in 1999 and completed her Diploma in Departmental Management course in 2000.
In the many years that Ying Leng spent in the Education Service, she was involved in a few interesting programmes. She took up a course in RECSAM in Penang (1996/7), worked as a Liasion Officer for APEX Youth Science Festival when Singapore was the host country (2000), participated in the MOE’s Overseas Life Science Programme (attached to Fred Hutchison’s Cancer Research Centre) when it started in 2004, and did a stint with the Education Programme Division at the Science Centre Singapore (2008-2009).
Ying Leng enjoys developing herself professionally and academically as she believes that she is in a better position to facilitate students’ learning when she has knowledge that is current and updated. She picked up interest in the field of Biotechnology after her attachment with the Fred Hutchison’s Cancer Research Centre and her interest drove her to go on study leave for a year to complete her Masters in Applied Science (Molecular Biotechnology) course in Sydney with the University of Sydney in 2004.
