Subject Head/ Mother Tongue Languages (MTL)
Mrs Bhupathy joined the teaching service in 1979, beginning the first 15 years’ of her teaching career in a primary school. She possesses two degrees, having attained a Bachelor of Arts (BA) degree in Tamil Language and Literature in 1997, and a BA in English Language and Literature in 1999. She received a Diploma in Guidance and Counseling in 2002. In 2008, she attained her Master in Education in Tamil Language.
Mrs Bhupathy was appointed a Subject Head in 1998, overseeing the Malay and Tamil languages. She has organized local and overseas learning journeys for the MTL department. She also plans programmes for all the Normal Technical (NT) classes, such as Elective modules for the upper secondary, and motivational and life skills workshops for the lower secondary pupils.
Mrs Bhupathy has contributed much to the school and the community. At MOE level, she has been serving in the Pedagogy and Resource Committee and has been actively contributing her services through sharing sessions. In 2008, she was appointed a teacher-author by Teachers’ Network (TN). For her contribution as an author, she was sent on a trip to Osaka, Japan, for a one-week work attachment. In 2009, she received the Associate of TN Award. She has shared and presented her pedagogical experiences at Tamil language international conferences. She shared on Human Dynamics at the 7th World Tamil Teachers’ Conference in Malaysia (2006) and on Staff Development in India (2009). She has also served as a volunteer in organizing and supervising a tuition programme for the needy TL pupils.
Being a life-long learner, she believes that she should be constantly upgrading and equipping herself professionally. In 2009, she took Professional Development Leave, and went on a Teachers’ Work Attachment to the Singapore Zoological Gardens. She designed a Zoo Trail in Tamil, collaborating with the ML and CL teachers to produce teaching resources in their respective MT languages.
Mrs Bhupathy was awarded the Most Inspiring Tamil Teacher Award in 2010. Her love for teaching knows no bounds. She creates a love for learning MT by conducting interesting fun-filled lessons using varied strategies and also provides opportunities for pupils to develop their thinking skills. She believes that as a Mother Tongue teacher, she is in a privileged position to touch the minds and hearts of her pupils. In her own ways she has reached out to many pupils and has brought out the best in them. She has boosted the confidence of her students to face the challenges in life and never give up.
