Vice Principal
Aziz began his career in education in 1996, having received the Rotary Club Gold Medal Award for best student of the Post Graduate Diploma in Education course at NIE. Since then, he has presented three international papers on the teaching and learning of History and Social Studies and two on character development and leadership, and has also been actively involved in numerous sharing sessions at national, zonal, cluster and school levels.
In 2001, as an HOD, he introduced process based learning – a hybrid of problem based learning and the use of mapping tools to help teach History, while using Understanding By Design as his core curriculum design tool. In 2003, he was a finalist of the History Association of Singapore Outstanding History Teacher Award. He also served a two year stint at the Social Studies Unit at HQ, where he led the team to produce two Rich Digital Media Content packages on Sri Lanka and Venice, in addition to textbook writing, teacher training and syllabus development.
Aziz served a short stint at Jurong Secondary School as a Vice Principal, before leaving on an MOE scholarship to pursue his Masters in Public Administration at the Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy. While studying there, he also served as a teaching assistant for a Master’s Course in Organizational Behaviour, and graduated as Valedictorian of the inaugural batch of students from the Master in Public Administration programme. Aziz was Vice Principal of Temasek Junior College from 2007 to 2009 before being posted to Serangoon Garden Secondary School. He does voluntary work as the secretary of the History Association of Singapore. He received the National Day Commendation Medal in 2009 in recognition of his contributions to education.
