HOD ICT

After graduating from NUS with a degree in Mathematics, Tong Hai joined Serangoon Garden Secondary School in 1997 and was appointed HOD/ ICT in 2006. Before his current post, he held various positions in the school, including LH/ Mathematics. He also covered the HOD/ Mathematics post in 2004.

In 2000, as the Commanding Officer, he guided the school’s National Cadet Corps (NCC) unit to attain a gold award for the Best Unit Competition, a first for the Uniformed Group in more than 10 years. He was to maintain their consistent achievement for the following years when he was in charge, enabling the school to attain the Sustained Achievement Award (UG).

As the HOD/ ICT, he oversaw the upgrading of the school’s ICT infrastructure network, including the development of the wireless PC network to support the school’s ICT programmes. He also works actively with the various departments to promote the use of ICT in teaching and learning, and handles major school systems including the School Cockpit and IEXAMS.

As the HOD in charge of Elements of Business Skills (EBS), he oversaw the integration of the 2-Day, 1-Night authentic learning programme for NT pupils into the curriculum, enabling the students to understand hospitality principles from the viewpoint of a tourist. The success of this programme was shared at the national EBS session for teachers in 2008.

In his free time, Tong Hai enjoys reading, Sudoku and rural getaways.
