Level Head (English)

Brenda graduated from Nanyang Technological University with a Bachelor of Business (Honours) specializing in Insurance and completed the Chartered of Insurance Institute Examinations in 2001. After working in the financial sector for three years, she was certain that educating children is her passion. She then went on to obtain her Postgraduate Diploma in Education (Secondary) from the Nanyang Institute of Education (NIE) in 2002.

Brenda started her teaching career as an English and Lower Secondary Literature teacher in Serangoon Garden Technical School. She taught upper secondary English when the school merged with Serangoon Garden Secondary (SGS) in 2003. After teaching for 6 years, she was posted to Psychological Services Branch (PSB), Education Programmes Division as a Reading Officer. During her 2 years stint in PSB, she helped to oversee the Learning Support Programme in primary schools and worked on projects with schools with regard to literacy issues. Her experience in PSB as a reading officer has greatly enhanced her understanding in literacy learning.

In 2011, she returned to SGS as the Level Head/ English to contribute and put to good use the knowledge and experience gained during her stint in PSB. She is currently attending the “Management and Leadership in Schools programme at NIE.
