Pedagogical Approaches and Assessment

The department uses the following teaching models: Direct teaching, concept teaching, Cooperative Learning and classroom discussion. The teachers help our pupils make connections between new Mathematics knowledge and their prior knowledge. We also use physical manipulatives to help concretize pupils’ learning.

The department carries out summative and formative assessments which are central to improving learning and maintaining educational standards. Formative assessment is carried out periodically through teachers’ observation of pupils’ learning, weekly tests on sub-topics, review of pupils’ assignments as well as self-checks and reflections by pupils. Summative assessment is carried out through common tests and semestral examinations.
