Langkawi, Malaysia (2012)
(A Tumblr was used by our teachers to record our adventures – click here to view the Tumblr!)
79 students and 10 teachers travelled to Langkawi from 20 to 23 May 2012 to study tourism as part of the new Geography syllabus. Tourist destinations visited include Underwater World, Wildlife Paradise, Black sand beach, Pulau Beras Basah, the Pregnant Maiden Lake and Laman Padi Rice Museum.
Students were engaged in Geography field investigations on tourism, where they conducted surveys and interviews with tourists, and took photographs of their surroundings as part of observation skills.
To aid in learning, students used iPads (loaned from the school) to capture the data for their field projects (e.g. using a Survey Pro app on iPad to record survey results). Teachers maintained a journal via Tumblr as well. A peer evaluation survey was conducted using Google Forms at the end of the project. Students also presented their findings in class.
