Why SGS?

At Serangoon Garden Secondary School, holistic development of pupils to their fullest potential is central to the school’s education policy. The school’s aim is to attract students who have a natural talent to lead and desire to serve.

Having attained the Sustained Achievement Award in Uniformed Groups for ten consecutive years, Serangoon Garden Secondary School has been identified by the Ministry of Education as a Niche School for Uniformed Groups in 2011.

The Niche School status in the UGs will further enhance the school’s strong tradition in its holistic educational program.

Uniformed Groups play a vital role in developing leadership. Through a variety of indoor and outdoor programmes, pupils are able to discover and develop their leadership skills, talent and abilities, while the sense of discipline instilled in them will also enhance their academic progression.

SGS provides pupils in the Uniformed Groups opportunities for a balanced, broad-based education programme that aims to groom pupils into resourceful, disciplined and resilient cadets capable of serving the school and the community as well as to meet the challenges of the 21st century.

Aspiring pupils with a strong desire to develop themselves holistically are welcome to be part of the following Uniformed Groups:
National Police Cadet Corps (NPCC)
National Cadet Corps (Land) (NCC)
Girl Guides (GG)
Boys’ Brigade (BB)
Girls’ Brigade (GB)
Red Cross (RC)

NCC and NPCC have been the most instrumental UGs behind the school’s achievement of its numerous SAA (Uniformed Groups). The outstanding achievement of the 2 UGs – NPCC clinched its 5th gold in 2010 and NCC clinched its 4th gold in 2010.

For 2010, the other UGs such as Girl Guides also achieved the Gold award. The Boys’ Brigade and the Girls’ Brigade managed to clinch the silver award while the Red Cross attained the Bronze award.
